The Lost Story by Meg Shaffer

Image
From the first couple of pages I was intrigued.  Boys who have been lost for months suddenly appear out of the woods.  Flash forward 15 years and now one of those lost boys finds lost girls.   Emilie, wants to find her sister that she has never met.  She wants Jeremy to find her but it means he must go back into the woods where he was lost.  To do that he is going to need his best friend and former lost boy, Rafe.  However there is so much more to this story.  I loved how the book was set up.  The world building was impressive and I felt like I was transported to the woods.  This story is a fairy tale but it is also about friendship, love, and family.  What I liked most was that the characters had to overcome their own personal demons in order to succeed on their journey.  A great version of an adult fairy tale. It just needs a sequel.

The Next Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

This was a great sequel to "The Last Mrs. Parrish."  I really enjoyed the first book and did not see the big twist so I had high hopes for this book. I was not disappointed.   This book picks up about a year after the first one.  As much as the reader would wish for a happy ever after ending for Daphne, that is not what is happening when it comes to her older daughter.  In an effort to help her daughter's mental state, she ends up back in Connecticut for the summer.  The book tells Daphne's story, as well as Amber's, just like the last book.  This book however, also introduces us to a new character, Daisy Ann. She was a great addition and I enjoyed figuring out how she was going to fit into the story.   The book was another great thriller and I enjoyed the drama and tension.  It is a must read especially if you enjoyed the first book.  I enjoyed getting to know the characters even more and Amber's backstory was really interes...

Neferura by Malayna Evans

Neferura will transport you back to ancient Egypt, into a world filled with drama, espionage, and court politics.  It is a fascinating, account of one of the only daughters of two pharaohs.  Hatshepsut was the first female pharaoh who did amazing things with her rule during a time when women ruling should have been unthinkable.  This story delves into her rule but the main focus is on her daughter, Neferura. What I really enjoyed about this book was Neferura is portrayed as a strong female whose life is not as easy as one would think for having a mother who is a pharaoh.  She has always had to placate her half-brother Thutmose III, who is co-ruler with her mother.  Thutmose hates Neferura and will do all that he can to over throw Hatshepsut and Neferura.  Neferura must use her own wits to figure out a way to out smart Thutmose before he finds out a way to get rid of her permanently.   I love a story that is set in ancient Egypt and this one...

Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth

My heart broke for the three sisters, Jessica, Norah, and Alicia. At one point in this novel I was an emotional wreck and could not stop reading because I just had to find out how things were going to play out.  The novel alternates between the present and the past.  Bones have been found at the house where the sisters grew up. The question is who do the bones belong to and does it have anything to do with their foster mother, Miss Fairchild?   I thoroughly enjoyed the writing of this novel.  The story flowed and I was very invested in what was going to happen to the main characters.  I also thought I had figured out the twist in the novel but I was wrong.  The ending just blew me away.  This was a fantastic thriller and be prepared to be emotionally invested!

Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle

Image
is so much more to this story than just your typical romance. It was a deeply moving story that made me want to read late into the night to find out what was going to happen.  I had to know if Daphne, the main character, would get a happy ending.  The magical element was a great twist with little pieces of paper that tell Daphne how long she will be in a relationship.  There is her dating history, where we learn more about Daphne and get insight into her life and how the notes have played a role.  The real question in the book though is if Jake is the one and is the note right? There was a lot to enjoy in this book and it is not a rom-com.  The romance element is there but there is so much more substance to this novel.  Daphne is an interesting character and there are more to her relationships than meets the eye. Plus the magical element really makes this book unique.  Overall, a very enjoyable read!

The New Couple in 5B by Lisa Unger

This book definitely has a dark side that keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next.  Chad and Rosie are a young married couple who want to have a baby.  Chad is an actor and Rosie is a writer so neither have the kind of money they would want to live comfortably in New York City.  When Chad inherits an apartment from his deceased uncle, they think all of their problems are solved.  However the problems are only just beginning.   Rosie was a great character and I was rooting for her the entire time.  She even has an interesting back story that I wanted to explore even more.  Within the novel there was a look at a former tenant of 5B, Willa.  Her story added more of a mystery and I loved seeing how it was all connected.  This was a great thriller that definitely kept me guessing to the end.  Lots of action, mystery, and intrigue that you won't want to miss. Lisa Unger is quickly becoming one of my favor...
