Brigands & Breadknives by Travis Baldree


 This was a great follow up novel to Legends and Lattes and Bookshops and Bonedust!

This book followed Fern who we met in Bookshops and Bonedust.  Fern moves to Thune to set up her bookshop and be close to VIv.  Only when she gets there something isn't right.  She ends up getting drunk and winds up in the wagon of the legendary Astryx the Blademistress and Oathmaiden.  Thus begins Fern's adventure as she travels with Astryx to bring in a goblin, Zyll, who is worth a huge bounty.

This book was filled with adventure, action, and emotion.  I loved the characters and the atmosphere the book created.  Fern's emotional journey was relatable on so many levels and I think any reader would be able to connect with what she was going through.  The trials and tribulations that Fern, Astryx, and Zyll, deal with on their journey will keep you reading late into the night.  What I loved most about the book though was how it made me feel as I read about their adventures together.  This fantasy world is also unique and one that I will enjoy reading for many years to come.  I loved the Medieval touch in this fantasy world.  A unique, heart warming story filled with lots of action that anyone would enjoy.

If you love cats you will love this book.  Actually it doesn't matter if you love cats or not, this is a wonderful read!  A heartwarming story about how a cat brings together 5 different people each struggling with their own personal challenges.  The novel is set in Brooklyn and told from 6 different perspectives including the cat.   Nuria is a barista who is feeling pressure from her mom to settle down but all Nuria really cares about is making coffee and cats.  Lily is he half sister and has moved to NY to meet Nuria.  However Nuria has no idea that Lily even exists.  Omar is the mailman but he is struggling with what he is going to do with his life.
