The Library After Dark by Ande Pliego Publishes 5/5/26
3.5 Stars- I've always wanted to be locked in a library but after reading this novel I am definitely rethinking that desire. This was a very dark locked room mystery novel. Told from several different points of view, there are 7 people who go on an after hours tour of a famous library only to find that they are trapped in it overnight. Then the deaths start happening.
The 7 characters all have a reason for being on the tour but something is not quite right because things go horribly wrong . Aria is seeing Jasper and she has high hopes for their relationship so when he surprises her with an after hours tour of a famous library how can she say no. Except Aria knows this library very well and she promised never to go back there. Aria is the main character so we get her perspective the most. I was rooting for her happy ending but still trying to figure out for sure if she was someone I should be wanting everything to go well for. The five others all have their own reasons for going on the tour but as a reader you need to figure out who is telling the truth and who might have other reasons for being there. Each character has a cameo where you get their thoughts and motives.
This book did take me a little to get into and to try and figure out how everything was connected. It is also not a light read however, the mystery was good. I did not figure out at all who was behind everything and how it was all going to play out. Everything was very well executed and I had no clue who or what was behind everything until the very end. If you are a fan of dark mysteries or locked door plot lines, you will enjoy this book.
Thank you to Bantam Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
